Spring is here! If you’re anything like me, you’re obsessed with all things spring cleaning and reorganizing. This year, I wanted to take it one step further and look at not only spring cleaning my home, but also my mind and body. Here’s a quick guide on 15 things you can do to spring clean your home, life, and body this season. Let’s dive in!
life
1. Clean out your closet
It’s time for some Marie Kondo-ing to see what sparks joy in your closet. Get rid of anything that doesn’t fit you anymore, is worn out, or you just don’t like anymore. Sell or donate anything you want to get rid of. You can even take it one step further by colour-coordinating all of the clothes in your closet. Getting ready in the morning will be so much easier once you know exactly what you have and where everything is!
2. Clean out your fridge and pantry
This is actually one of my favourite things to do. I love taking everything out of the fridge and pantry, cleaning the shelves, and then putting it all back super organized. I find that I often find things in there that I didn’t even know we had so it’s also a great way to do an inventory on your food situation! Stuff gets buried at the bottom of the freezer or at the back of the cupboard and we just need to do a bit of reorganizing to remember that it’s there.
3. Clean out your car
It’s time to get rid of the winter mats and give your car a deep clean for the new season. Vacuum and wipe down all the nooks and crannies. It’s crazy what you’ll find in there and how much better you’ll feel once it’s all cleaned out.
4. Clean up your cleaning products
Have you ever taken a look at all of the ingredients (AKA chemicals) in your cleaning products? Do yourself and your family a favour this year and opt for natural cleaning products or, even better, make your own!
5. Deep clean your house
Go through every room and do all of those little cleaning jobs that are so tedious that it makes it hard to keep up with on a weekly basis. Clean behind the furniture and under the couch cushions. Wipe down all the blinds, baseboards, and windowsills. Trust me, it’s going to feel like a brand new house.
body
1. Start every morning with a big glass of lemon water
The bigger the better! Drinking a big glass of lemon water each morning is one of the best ways to kickstart your day and rehydrate after sleeping all night.
2. Up your daily water intake
Now that the weather’s getting warmer, it’s even more important to make sure you’re drinking enough water. Read this post on ways to increase your water intake for some tips.
3. Clean up your skin products
Along with all of the toxic chemicals in cleaning products, there’s a good chance your skin products are also housing some ingredients that you don’t want to be using on a daily basis. Do an inventory of what you’re using on your skin and clean it up wherever you can. Less is more when it comes to ingredients!
4. Make a movement plan
Whether it’s yoga, weight lifting, or walking, figure out what movement you’re going to incorporate into your routine and how you’re going to make sure it happens daily.
5. Establish a regular morning and evening routine
Spring is the perfect time to revamp your morning and evening routines. The days are longer and the weather is warmer making it so much easier to get out of bed in the morning. It’s time to set up the ultimate routines for morning and night to help you get the most out of your days.
mind
1. Start a new journal
I always like to start a new journal at the start of every season. It’s the perfect opportunity for a fresh start and a new plan. Try to write out your goals for the day or reflect on the day before you go to bed. Whatever works best for you!
2. Start a daily gratitude practice
Along with your new journal, start a daily gratitude practice. I like to have a page in my journal dedicated to gratitude for the month. Write out all the days of the month and then every morning you can write one, two, or three things you’re grateful for. Try to think of a different thing each day and see how your perspective switches by the end of the month.
3. Introduce a meditation routine
Figure out what form of meditation works best for you and try to incorporate it into your routine. If you’re someone who has been putting off meditating because you’re convinced you can’t do it/don’t have time/etc., check out this post on meditation myths that need to go for some inspiration.
4. Do a phone detox
A lot of the phones now have this great tool that keeps track of how many times you pick it up each day, how long you’re looking at the screen, and how much time you’re spending on each app. You can even set limits now for how long you want to be allowed to spend on each app. Try and set reasonable limits for yourself so that it catches you when you’ve been mindlessly scrolling through Instagram and Facebook for an hour.
5. Change your mental conversation
Your thoughts are way more powerful than you realize. Write out some positive affirmations and try to remember those whenever you’re feeling your thoughts go somewhere negative.
