7 Reasons to Start Your Day with Lemon Water - Kyra Cosman

I always like to start my day with a cup of warm water with half a lemon squeezed into it. Not only is it absolutely delicious but it also has so many health benefits. I find that when I don’t have it first thing in the morning, my day is all out of whack. Sometimes, I’ll add a scoop of collagen powder for an extra boost or if I’m feeling a cold coming on I’ll add in some honey. Most often though, I’ll just drink it plain and enjoy it while I wake up.

You’re probably wondering what it is that makes lemons so special. Lemons are packed with amazing nutrients including vitamin C, calcium, iron, magnesium, fibre, potassium, and B-complex vitamins. The best way to get all the benefits from your lemon water is to enjoy it as soon as you wake up and then wait 30 minutes or so before having breakfast.

Here are some of the awesome health benefits of lemon water!

1. Improves digestion

The citric acid found in lemon juice can help your body with digestion throughout the day. Lemon juice also helps flush out unwanted toxins from the body and help relieve symptoms of indigestion.

2. Boosts your immune system

You know when you have a cold and everyone tells you to load up on the vitamin C? When you’re sick or stressed out your vitamin C levels plummet. Lemon juice is packed with vitamin C and having a glass a day gives your immune system the boost it needs to fight off those illnesses. Lemons are also high in potassium which stimulates brain and nerve function and helps control blood pressure levels.

3. Keeps you hydrated

As we all know, drinking water is a very important aspect to your health. Starting the day off right with a glass of water helps to encourage this habit and gives your body the hydration it needs to take on the day. It also provides you with an abundance of hydrating electrolytes in the form of potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

4. Balances pH levels

Drinking lemon water can help stabilize the pH levels in your body which positively affects your overall health. This also aids in removing toxins from the body which helps fight off many unwanted viruses.

5. Gives you that morning glow

Lemons have been shown to improve skin quality and decrease blemishes and wrinkles. It’s detoxify powers also help release unwanted toxins from the body which leaves your skin with a healthy glow.

6. Makes you happier

Lemon juice helps reduce anxiety and depression due to the high potassium content. It also provides your body with natural energy as it enters your digestive tract.

7. Promotes weight loss

Lemons are high in pectin fibre, which helps fight hunger cravings. This could help reduce snacking throughout the day resulting in a lower calorie intake. Starting the day with lemon water is also a healthy choice and if you start the day off right you are more likely to maintain those healthy habits throughout the rest of the day.
